CARLTON defender Heath Scotland will miss season-opening blockbuster clashes with Richmond and Collingwood after being suspended by his club.

The Blues have also ordered the 32-year-old to make a $3000 donation to charity after he pleaded guilty to an assault charge last year.

Scotland escaped conviction and was handed a two-year good behaviour bond in October over his role in a pub brawl in Mulwala in southern NSW last January.

"The club is very disappointed in Heath's actions as they did not uphold Carlton's core values and behaviours,'' the Blues' general manager of football Andrew McKay said.

"Heath has expressed considerable remorse for his actions and will make the $3000 donation to Les Twentyman's 20th Man organisation, who he has worked closely with over the past 12 months.

"This organisation provides educational, sporting and counselling services to the homeless and disadvantaged.

"Heath understands this is a serious matter and accepts the club's reasoning for the two-game suspension and donation.''

Scotland will be available for the pre-season competition and to play for the club's VFL affiliate, the Northern Blues, during his suspension, which was endorsed by the AFL.
